FAU Engineering Distance Education

The College of Engineering and Computer Science offers a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses to help meet the needs of students who require more flexibility in their coursework. Each semester the College schedules over 50 courses using the following distance learning instructional methods:

  • Mixed Online: Live class lectures are recorded and posted online the same day in a downloadable video streaming format. Depending on the course, students may be required to attend some on-campus lectures/exams.

  • Video Streaming: Interactive video courses (videoconferencing) are live courses broadcast to remote locations and other campuses that allow the class to be conducted in "real-time" through two-way audio and video.

  • Fully Online: Internet courses can be completed in their entirety from any location with the appropriate technology. These courses use a combination of online resources (chat rooms, threaded discussions, interactive web pages, etc.) to support instruction.

  • Course Access/Content Delivery: FAU currently uses Canvas, a virtual learning environment and course management system. Lecture recordings are posted 2-4 hours upon completion of the live lecture. To log into Canvas, click the following link: fau.edu/canvas. Note: Student's FAUNetID and associated password is the login for Canvas.
