FAU Honors 2016 Distinguished Alumni
Friday, May 27, 2016The Florida Atlantic University Alumni Association hosted a reception in April to honor distinguished FAU alumni. More than 200 guests attended the event, which brings together alumni to celebrate the accomplishments of their most outstanding peers. Alumni from eight of FAU’s colleges were honored for their career accomplishments.
The distinguished alum for the FAU College of Engineering and Computer Science for 2016 was Gary Enzor, B.A.S. '84, M.B.A. '90. Enzor is chairman and chief executive officer of Quality Distribution, based in Tampa, and a director of USA Truck (USAK) in Fort Smith, Ark. Quality Distribution traded on the Nasdaq (QLTY) from 2003 to 2015, before going private via an acquisition by APAX Partners in August 2015. Quality operates the largest chemical bulk transportation fleet in North America with approximately $1 billion in revenue.
Enzor served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Swift Transportation in Phoenix, Ariz., for two years before joining Quality in 2004. Previously, Enzor spent 17 years with Honeywell, formerly AlliedSignal, where he held several senior financial executive roles. He was also with Dell for two years, where he ran their $1.5 billion Higher Education Business. He was a finalist for the 2015 Ernest Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Enzor holds a bachelor's degree in computer science and a master's degree in business administration from FAU.
"FAU was tremendously helpful positioning me for success in business," said Enzor. "First of all, they enabled me to better afford college, via scholarships, which were greatly appreciated. Secondly, FAU educated me well both technically through my undergraduate computer science program and in general business through the MBA program. Thirdly, FAU's internship program provided me with ease of entry into the business world that translated into my first 17 years at Honeywell."
