The Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering houses one of the most comprehensive geotechnical laboratory testing facilities in South Florida. In addition to conventional soil and geomaterials testing equipment, the facility includes:

• multiple direct shear devices
• static and dynamic triaxial testing machines
• unconfined compression devices, and
• a group of ten consolidation testing machines.

The laboratory is used extensively to conduct projects sponsored by federal, state and local agencies and private industries.
