FAU Professor Receives Outstanding Technical Achievement Award from the Florida Engineering Society
Thursday, Feb 26, 2015Fred Bloetscher, Ph.D., associate professor in Florida Atlantic University’s department of civil, environmental and geomatics engineering has been awarded the 2015 Outstanding Technical Achievement Award from the Florida Engineering Society (FES), Broward Chapter at their Annual Awards Banquet held in Davie, Florida on February 26, 2015.
Bloetscher was recognized for his exceptional leadership, commitment and service to the Florida community. He has taught more than 70 classes and nearly 900 students; served as faculty adviser for FAU’s chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers; and advised students’ work on a Gold LEED-certified library in Dania Beach, the design plans for the Pembroke Pines Aquifer Recharge project, and Dania Beach’s nanofiltration plant. At FAU, he has been nominated for Distinguished Teacher of the Year three times and was a finalist in 2006, and received the TIAA-CREF Faculty Service Award in 2010 and Talon Leadership Award on 2012. Bloetscher’s research interests are in water and wastewater technology, groundwater wells, flow and contaminant transport, wastewater disposal practices and risk assessment, sustainable water resource planning and management, environmental engineering and utility management and finance.
The Outstanding Technical Achievement Award is given each year to an individual who, as project engineer or project manager, has achieved particular distinction in his/her own technical field and mode of practice, which may be government, education, industry, construction or private practice. The technical achievement is selected as one that enhances the engineering profession and contributes to the good of the public. The award is given in recognition of a singular achievement or a series of achievements, which are recognized within the profession as being unique, innovative and/or outstanding. The candidate must have a record of active participation in professional and technical society activities and have a record of
professional development through continuing education.
