Dr. Hoang Tran Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship honors the late Dr. Hoang Vu Tran, Assistant Professor in the College of Education and will be awarded to graduate or undergraduate students who best represent his commitment to the underserved, particularly those most adversely affected by poverty, racism and/or related barriers to equal access to education.
Dr. Tran enjoyed teaching and working with students examining issues of racial inequality, educational access, and fulfilling the Civil Rights promise of education. He spoke to how simple educational access was one of the biggest roadblocks to many students operating on a level playing field and he developed a strong passion to support those less fortunate children in his native country of Viet Nam.
We welcome students following in his footsteps of dedicated community service, or who are facing barriers to access that impede their progress as students to apply, explaining how they are connected with Dr. Tran’s vision and legacy.
