Dr. Michael P. Brady served as Chair of the Department of Special Education (formerly known as the Department of Exceptional Student Education) at Florida Atlantic University for 21 years. He worked extensively to promote graduate education in special education, with a special emphasis on doctoral education. During his career, Brady chaired and/or served on 49 dissertation committees (25 at FAU), published over 120 articles and made more than 160 professional presentations. He exhibited rewarding grantsmanship, garnering over 4 million dollars to support teacher preparation and educational opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities. Although Dr. Brady passed away on December 16, 2021, he will forever be remembered in the hearts and minds of those closest to him, as well as the students and families impacted by his work. His legacy will live on through the work of his “army of doctoral level educated special educators.” To ensure continuation of his work, the Dr. Michael P. Brady Memorial Scholarship for doctoral education in special education was created. This scholarship fund will support the education of students who share Mike’s passion for the education and treatment of folks with disabilities across the lifespan.
