Pride & Prejudice: 50 Years since Stonewall

The Department of Curriculum, Culture and Educational Inquiry (CCEI) and FAU’s Diversity Platform proudly presented, “Pride & Prejudice: 50 Years After Stonewall” in collaboration with the Palm Beach School District Office of African, African American, Latino and Gender Studies on October 19th, 2019. This professional development experience was attended by nearly 60 local educators, FAU faculty and students, and community members who engaged in discussions around how we can better serve our LGBTQ students.

The event featured a presentation by Amanda Canete, the Youth Program Director of Compass. This was followed by a panel presentation of local students who shared insights based on their personal experiences. Attendees then engaged in breakout sessions, which highlighted emerging research and addressed the following topics:

• Queerly Pedagogical presented by Barclay Barrios, Ph.D.
• Emerging Research and Implications for Practice presented by Dominic Grasso, Ph.D. and Rebecca Lewis, M.Ed.
• Gender Privilege presented by Jamie Weiss, Ph.D. and Felicia Levine, Ph.D.
• Transgender Students' Needs in Schools presented by Lucas O'Ryan and Michael Riordan
