Specialized Training Experiences
Optional Training Focus
FAU CAPS trains Interns to be generalists, however we also value depth and developing areas of expertise and therefore offer the option to participate in a Training Focus. In order to create a comprehensive training experience, we strive for each training focus to include a clinical component (individual and/or group therapy), outreach and/or liaison experiences, committee responsibilities or meetings and readings or trainings. Interns have some flexibility in shaping their training foci, when feasible, so they can receive training that is most congruent with their interests and future career goals. Interns typically spend 3-6 hours per week engaging in activities related to their training focus. Below is a list of current training foci offered and some activities that might fall under each.

Optional Mentored Administrative Experiences
Interns often are interested in taking on coordinatorships in counseling centers upon graduation and we want to provide opportunities to receive training in these areas to increase their competitiveness for these positions. The Mentored Administrative Experiences allow for this, as interns can partner with our coordinators or administrators to learn more about program development in an area of specific interest to them. Interns who select to engage in a Targeted Administrative Experience will spend 1-3 hours per week in selected area and may engage in tasks such as meeting with coordinator to assist in program development and participating in CAPS or other department committees or meetings. Areas for Targeted Administrative Experiences include Outreach, Group Coordination, Training, and Counseling Center Administration.
