Robert Lyn

Robert Lyn is our newly promoted Police Service Technician Supervisor (PST) at the University Police Department on the Davie campus. Robert has worked for the FAU Police Department since 2009 as a Police Service Technician. His role required him to keep the campus community safe by providing surveillance, assisting, and reporting any unusual activity to the sworn officers, and informing students about safety precautions. Throughout Robert's career at FAU, he has been awarded "Officer of The Month" and "PST Officer of the Year" due to his diligent work ethic. As a Police Service Technician Supervisor, he is now responsible for overseeing fellow Police Service Technicians and ensuring operations are running efficiently in the department and on campus, including SeaTech and Fort Lauderdale campuses. He enjoys the interactions with staff and students and the responsibility of keeping the college community safe. "The people are the most enjoyable aspect of my job and having conversations with them," he said.

Robert was born in 1957 and raised in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. He left Jamaica after high school in 1975 to pursue a degree in electronic engineering at the DeVry Institute of Technology in Toronto, Canada. Upon his college graduation, Robert worked for more than twenty years customizing alarm systems. In 2008, he had a massive life-changing event that motivated a shift in his career path to one more suitable for his health and well-being. He joined the FAU family in 2009.

If you are interested in his field of work, Robert advises majoring in criminal justice or a similar major and becoming a Community Service Officer while in college. If you have an interest in becoming a sworn police officer, the Police Technician position is a great steppingstone. There is also possible sponsorship from the FAU police department to go to the police academy. "If you like to help people and keep them safe, it will be a great fit. Police officers want to help people," he said. He advises students to "watch your back and always be aware of your surroundings. If something does not look right to you, say something."
