Edward Hayward
Thursday, Jul 01, 2021Edward Hayward is the Assistant Director for the Office of Student Financial Aid at the Davie campus, where he is in charge of processing all private loans on behalf of the Financial Aid department. He has been in this position since 2015. The biggest advice Hayward has for students is to seek out and apply to as many scholarships as you can. "Apply at your church, your high school, your academic department -- anywhere that doesn’t require you to pay a fee – as those are usually scams," Hayward said. "Apply as early as possible for financial aid and be aware that we occasionally have institutional funds available for those that meet priority deadlines."
Hayward said he sought a university staff position immediately after graduating from college in 1988 because he loved the university atmosphere. "I also figured if I could advise a couple of students away from the pitfalls that I went through I would sleep better," he said.
Prior to the Broward Campuses, Hayward worked at the Boca Raton campus as the Associate Director Athletics – Compliance, where for over 15 years he ensured the athletic department complied with the NCAA and Conference USA rules and regulations.
Hayward came to FAU after serving as Florida International University’s compliance retention and academic support athletic coordinator. Prior to that, Hayward received his M.S. in Sports Administration in 1991 from St. Thomas University. His first job was at his alma mater, Tennessee Technological University, where he served as Admissions Counselor for the University’s Office of Admissions. As a student, Hayward was a standout tailback for Tennessee Tech’s Golden Eagles where he was a four-year letterman. He was also one of the seven Golden Eagles to rush for a 1,000 yards in a single season. Hayward received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Tennessee Tech in 1988.
Hayward’s favorite memory of working at the Davie campus are the pre-pandemic Holiday parties and luncheons that took place every year. "When I worked at the Boca Raton campus, seeing the student-athletes graduate was probably my favorite memory – and working with a great staff and student athletes, not to mention the love/hate professional working relationship with the former coaches that I worked with," he said.
As a kid, Hayward was a military brat who lived abroad in Schwabisch Gmund, Germany. His family later moved to the United States and he graduated high school in Manhattan, Kansas. Hayward lives in Miami with his family. He has three children and one grandchild. During his free time, he is a second degree black belt instructor in Shinto Yoshin Kai Jiu-Jitsu.
