Donna Saporito
Sunday, Aug 01, 2021Donna Saporito, the new coordinator for FAU’s Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering’s SeaTech campus in Dania Beach, moved to Miami as a young child and absolutely loves South Florida’s waterways. At SeaTech, Donna is the voice on the phone when you call and greets you when you arrive on campus. She oversees day-to-day operations, activities and special events, including this summer’s annual FAU Ocean Engineering Summer Camp that hosted high school students interested in ocean mechanical engineering.
"My favorite experience at SeaTech so far is the people I have met working here," said Saporito, who joined FAU as SeaTech’s coordinator this past March. She previously worked at Nova Southeastern University. "Everyone has welcomed me and made me feel at home. I truly enjoy the students. It’s nice to talk with them about their research or small things like how their weekend was." During the annual FAU Ocean Engineering Summer Camp, Saporito said it was exciting to see the high school students who were working with Dr. Siddhartha Verma and the graduate students using their newly acquired skills to build remote control cars. She looks forward to hosting the first in-person open house for prospective students.
Donna now lives in Hollywood and "In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my two children, scuba diving, reading, but mostly anything that has to do with the ocean," she said.
