Environment

NGP students can pursue education and research options on the FAU Boca Raton, Davie, and Jupiter campuses, accessed through international airports in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach. All campuses are located only minutes away from coastal beaches and intracoastal waterways, each teaming with wildlife and providing many opportunities for aquatic adventures. The Everglades National Park, as well as many state parks, nature centers and wildlife refuges offer hours of relaxation amid the beauty of the natural world. Sophisticated and inexpensive dining and entertainment are within easy reach of FAU students. A free, Wi-Fi enabled shuttle connects the Boca Raton and Jupiter campuses. Step out of class and into all that South Florida offers: stunning beaches, boating and fishing. World-class shops and restaurants. Engaging culture and arts. Top-tier entertainment. You'll quickly see why millions travel here from around the globe—and why so many choose to stay.

FAU Campuses

FAU's six campuses showcase 110 coastal miles of diverse South Florida at its best. Florida Atlantic University was founded in 1961, in Boca Raton on an 850-acre site located near the Atlantic Ocean. The Boca Raton Campus is conveniently located halfway between Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale and offers a broad range of academic programs, activities, and services. The Boca Raton campus is home to FAU's Division I Intercollegiate Athletics program and facilities. The FAU Davie Campus has served FAU students since 1990 working in close partnership with Broward College and other educational institutions. The FAU Davie Campus creates a supportive learning environment with particular sensitivity to students of nontraditional ages and culturally diverse backgrounds. It also hosts the base of operations for FAU's Everglades research and restoration efforts. Located in Jupiter's Abacoa community, Florida Atlantic University's John D. MacArthur Campus opened in the fall of 1999. The campus presently enrolls more than 1,300 students and offers a wide variety of upper-division and graduate courses from five of the University's ten colleges. The Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, a four-year residential liberal arts and sciences college for high achieving undergraduates, is located here. The campus is also the site of research facilities for both the FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute, the Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute and Max Planck Florida Institutes. Florida Atlantic University's Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute is located in Fort Pierce on the Atlantic Coast. As one of the nation's premier oceanographic centers, FAU Harbor Branch's research community of approximately 200 ocean scientists, staff and students drives innovation in: marine science and engineering; conservation of coral reefs, studies of marine mammals and fisheries; marine drug discovery; estuarine and coastal ecology and observation; ocean dynamics and modeling; aquaculture and marine science education.

Research Resources

FAU Neuroscience students have access to state-of-the-art tools that explore the brain across multiple levels of analysis, from super-resolution microscopy that can illuminate the detailed organization of molecules and cells in the nervous system to automated screening systems to assess the behavioral impact of brain disease-causing mutations, to vivo physiological and to behavioral imaging platforms that can interrogate specialized areas of the thinking, human brain. NGP students also have access to research core facilities at the Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute’s Advanced Cell Imaging Core, and the Human Imaging Core on the FAU Boca Raton campus, as well as biomedical research facilities within the College of Engineering & Computer Science and the Colleges of Science and Medicine. Additional cutting-edge research cores are available at the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience.
