Dr. Deandre Poole has over a decade of higher education experience in communication education, curriculum and instruction. He serves as a senior instructor in the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Dr. Poole is also an associate member of the graduate faculty. Dr. Poole earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Communication from FAU and his Ph.D. in Communication and Culture from Howard University. Professor Poole’s teaching and research is focused on critical race theory, community and civic engagement, and political discourse analysis.  

In addition to his educational and teaching accomplishments, Dr. Poole also serves in various civic, nonprofit, political, and academic leadership positions focused on equality, social justice, advocacy, educational empowerment, civic engagement, and leadership development.  Some of the various leadership positions include serving as President of the United Faculty of Florida— FAU Chapter, Vice Chair of the Palm Beach County Democratic Party, President of VOICE Florida, Chairman of the Coalition for Black Student Achievement, Chairman of the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee and member of the Sales Surtax Advisory Committee for the City of West Palm Beach, board member for the Scholastic Achievement Foundation of Palm Beach County, and Chairman of the Academic Advisory Committee for the School District of Palm Beach County. Dr. Poole is also a member of the Leadership Studies Minor Advisory Committee at FAU and serves on the board of the Florida Communication Association.

As an academic and community organizer, Dr. Poole is committed to equipping students and community members with the critical communication skills needed to successfully navigate our global and complex world.  He is called upon to give community lectures, to serve on academic panels, and to give media interviews on issues pertaining to race, politics, and cultural affairs. During the 2016 presidential election cycle, Dr. Poole represented Florida as a Delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, PA.  He received the 2016 Community Leadership Award presented by the Hispanic Education Coalition and the Jose’ Marti Foundation, in recognition for his outstanding leadership and advocacy for educational excellence and equity for all students in Palm Beach County.
