Lina Sofía Vásquez is the recipient of both the
Harry S. Kramer Scholarship for Peace, Justice, and Human Rights
and the
Janke Human Rights, Peace and Social Justice Scholarship
from the Center for Peace, Justice, and Human Rights at Florida Atlantic University. This award recognizes Sofia’s outstanding contributions with
Colombian Truth Commission translation project at FAU
, her high quality of your academic work, and her strong participation on the
Student of Social Work Club
which it created a community of students to advocate for social justice.
Sofia was born and raised in Colombia. She is a junior pursuing a degree in social work. The translation project means a lot to Sofia, “because these reports transmit the emotions and experiences that the victims of the conflict went through, being in the middle of the crossfire. I encourage everyone to read these reports with an open heart and empathy for those affected. Many of the victims have opened their hearts to share with the world the truths about their lives, their past and a future that is yet to be built upon justice and peace. I am excited to be part of this project and thankful for the opportunity to bring to the world such important documents for my beloved homeland, Colombia”. Congratulations, Sofia. We are so very proud of you and look forward to celebrating your many future successes.
