Gwendolyn Carey is the curriculum specialist for FAU’s Academy for Community Inclusion (ACI). ACI is a state of the art program that provides a comprehensive post-secondary education to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ID/DD). She was recruited to assist with the development of the ACI program after dedicating over a decade to improving the lives of students with varying exceptionalities in Palm Beach County’s public school system. Gwendolyn’s research revolves around quality of life issues for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as the supports that may utilized to assist individuals with ID/DD in reaching their potential. Her most recent publication focused on utilizing peer mentors to promote self-determination for individuals with ID/DD. Gwendolyn is also pursuing her doctorate in Exceptional Student Education.
