Concerts for Every Taste in FAU’s 2024-25 Season
Tuesday, Sep 10, 2024Florida Atlantic University’s Department of Music in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters has announced its 2024-25 season. Unless otherwise noted, all shows take place on FAU’s Boca Raton campus at 777 Glades Road. Tickets are available at www.fauevents.com or by calling 561-297-6124.
The concert season opens on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. with the Quinteto BR5, a Brazilian Chamber group formed by four major trombonists and a pianist from Brazil’s top university faculty. This concert takes place in the University Theatre and is $10.
Next is The Trombone: Past, Present and Future on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. From favorite standards for tenor and bass trombones, to premiers into the future. Enjoy compositions from the classical to the jazz and fusion repertoire, from the Americas to the world. Collaboration and friendships, some of them even born during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. José Leonardo Leon, Trombone; Eerang Ahn, piano; David Rossow, piano; Suzanne Prescott, double bass; Mathew Nichols, percussion. This concert is $20 and takes place in the University Theatre.
The Symphony Orchestra and Vocalis has their season debut on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. with “Of Curses, Witches, and Fairies: Supernatural Music.” The concert will begin in the magical forest of the fairy world with the Overture and Incidental Music from Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, followed by a trip aboard a doomed sailing ship with a cursed captain in the Prelude and Spinning Chorus from Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman and ending with prophecies of power and murder in the Prelude and Witches’ Chorus from Verdi’s Macbeth, conducted by Laura Joella and Stacie Rossow (Conductor, Vocalis). Tickets are $10 and it takes place in the University Theatre.
