Kyle Prescott is the Director of Bands and Professor of Music at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.  His responsibilities include conducting the University Wind Ensemble and Chamber Winds, teaching the graduate instrumental conducting sequence and coordinating all aspects of FAU’s comprehensive university bands program. He holds his undergraduate degree from the University of Idaho’s Lionel Hampton School of Music, and the Master of Music and the Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Wind Conducting from The University of Texas at Austin, where his principal conducting teacher was Jerry F. Junkin.

Prior to his work at The University of Texas, Dr. Prescott conducted bands in the Pacific Northwest. Ensembles under his direction have been invited to perform at the Northwest Regional Conference of the National Association for Music Education in 1997 and 1999, the Florida Music Educators Association Conference in 2009, and the Southern Conference of the College Band Directors National Association in Georgia in 2008,  South Carolina in 2016, and Louisiana in 2020 . A strong proponent of new music for wind ensemble, Dr. Prescott has conducted many world premieres in recent years, including works by Arthur Weisberg, Libby Larsen, James Syler, and Jamie Thierman. In addition to guest conducting across the country, in 2016 Dr Prescott conducted the Florida All State Concert Orchestra and will conduct the All State Concert Band in 2025. 

His is published in five separate volumes of the Teaching Music Through Performance series. He has presented on conducting technique and wind repertoire at conferences across the United States, and a distinctive session for the National Security Agency on the role of band musicians in cryptographic history. He serves on the Board of the Florida Bandmasters Association, is a past Florida State Chair of CBDNA, Conductor of the Philharmonic of the Palm Beach Youth Orchestras, Past President of The Symphonia chamber orchestra, and Conductor and Music Director of South Florida’s professional wind band, the Florida Wind Symphony and its affiliate, the FWS Jazz Orchestra.
