Rebecca Lautar, who is currently serving as Associate Dean in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, served as chair of the Department of Music from 2011-2020. She is a Professor of Music at Florida Atlantic University, where she teaches violin, viola, chamber music and string education courses. She performs in the Palm Beach Opera and as a member of the department faculty.

Professor Lautar received her Bachelor of Music degree from Western Michigan University and a Master of Music with Distinction from Indiana University, where her teachers included Mimi Zwieg and Franco Gulli.
