Percussion Audition Requirements
Undergraduate Percussion Audition Requirements
Sight Reading may be requested on any instrument
If you’re unsure with any of your repertoire, email with Professor Nichols to confirm.
Snare drum:
- Long roll, pp-ff-pp, approx. 30 seconds total
- Perform a solo piece or etude from any of the following composers: Wilcoxon, Pratt, Cirone, Peters, Delacluse, or any repertoire from the FMEA S&E List (grade 4 or higher)
Keyboard:
- Major Scales with arpeggios, two octaves; full chromatic scale
- Any 2 or 4 Mallet Etude or Solo from any of the following composers: Peters, Goldenberg, Koshinski, Gottlieb, or any repertoire from the FMEA S&E list (grade 4 or higher)
Timpani:
- Demonstrate tuning the drums from a pitch source (tuning fork, pitch pipe, mallet instrument)
- Perform a timpani solo or etude from any of the following composers: Goodman, Peters, Beck, Firth, Gay, Delacluse or any repertoire from the FMEA S&E List (grade 4 or higher)
Drum Set:
- Demonstrate proficiency in multiple styles as follows, performing a minimum of 7 different styles: In each style demonstrate 12 measures of straight time-keeping, move info four measure solo fill, and return to time keeping.
- Jazz Ballad with brushes
- Medium tempo swing
- Up Tempo Swing
- Samba
- Bossa Nova
- Songo
- Bembe
- Soca
- Rock
- Funk
- Second Line
- Jazz - Double Time/Half Time vs Double Time feel/Half Time feel
- any other styles of your choosing
