Jack Youngerman studied at University of Missouri, Columbia, where he earned his BA degree in journalism. In 1944 he entered the U.S. Navy Officers Training Program at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he took first art course in drawing. After moving to Paris and studying and exhibiting work in Europe, Youngerman made his American debut with the first of seven one-man exhibitions at Betty Parsons Gallery, New York in 1958. He continued on to have a widely successful arts career, exhibiting work internationally and receiving numerous awards, fellowships, exhibitions, and residences. Youngerman passed away in February 2020, at 93 years old.
