Beginning in 1979, the Art in State Building Program was founded to ensure that art would become widely accessible in public areas across Florida. The program requires that up to .5% of the construction budget for all public facilities built with state funds be dedicated to funding public art pieces in the proposed area, including University Campuses like here at FAU. The Art in State Building artworks can be distinguished by the acronym “ASB” and a corresponding number in the caption of each piece. These works, along with the generous donations which FAU has also received, create a sense of community across campus. The artworks are placed purposefully and thoughtfully to engage students with art in a way they might not otherwise have access to, and allow students and teachers of all majors to connect with art and engage in meaningful discussions.
