Ph.D. Student / English GTA Kimberly Bain Wins CCCC Scholars for the Dream Award

Congratulations to Kimberly Bain, Doctoral student in FAU’s Comparative Studies Program and GTA for English, on receiving a 2022 Scholars for the Dream Travel Award.

The Conference on College Composition and Communication sponsors the Scholars for the Dream Travel Award to encourage scholarship by historically underrepresented groups. This includes Black, Latinx, Asian, American Indian/Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or other Pacific Islander scholars, regardless of citizenship status—persons whose presence and whose contributions are central to the full realization of our professional goals.

According to the press release from the National Council of Teachers of English, the CCCC Scholars for the Dream selection committee noted

Kimberly Bain addresses the exploitation of adjunct faculty labor, contrasting the demands of “part-time employment with the seemingly full-time responsibility of teaching a composition course,” and she argues that one strategy for grappling with this exploitation involves boundary work. Bain’s presentation contributes to scholarship on academic labor struggles taking place throughout the US.

Kimberly Bain will be announced as a recipient of the CCCC Scholars for the Dream Travel Award on Thursday, March 10, during the virtual 2022 CCCC Annual Convention.

Congratulations Kimberly!
