Taking Care in Stressful Times: Mental Health Resources & Conversations for Graduate Students

This series of events has been curated specifically for graduate students and is designed to provide you with resources and respite. More details will follow. Feel free to direct questions to cchenovick@fau.edu and to pass on suggestions for future programming.

Zoom Presentation and Q & A with CAPS Counselors

CAPS Doctoral Intern Liz Altamarino will offer a brief presentation on mental health resources on campus as well as specific strategies for dealing with anxiety, overwhelm, and other concerns that often affect academics. Following this presentation, there will be a Q&A, and counseling staff Brianna Allen and Amara Chukwunenye will be available for 1:1 breakout chats to answer questions about counseling on campus.

Counseling staff Jennifer Jacobson and Greg Horn will be available to answer questions about CAPS services and about finding the right counselor.

Calming Strategies and Virtual Labyrinth Experience with Dr. Sara Dochterman

Dr. Sara Dochterman will discuss concrete strategies for addressing anxiety and will guide participants in a virtual labyrinth experience designed to facilitate mindfulness and calm. A short discussion will follow.

Sara Dochterman, LCSW is a therapist in private practice via telehealth in FL, NC and GA, specializing in trauma, anxiety and depression. She is also a Veriditas Certified Labyrinth Facilitator and offers workshops and retreats for the community. She has provided labyrinth experiences for clients in substance abuse and eating disorders treatment, as well.  Sara received her MSW from FAU in 2007 and served as the Associate Director for the Phyllis and Harvey Sandler School of Social Work at FAU for 3 years until Summer 2021.

Participants will receive a printed labyrinth page to use for this exercise.
