On Tuesday, March 8 at 7pm, Dr. Kate Polak will deliver a lecture, "Never Again and Again and Again: Maus, the Tennessee School Board Ban, and Rising Holocaust Distortion" at Mandel JCC in Palm Beach Gardens.

In January, a Tennessee School Board banned Art Spiegelman’s acclaimed graphic novel Maus from its eighth-grade curriculum. Given the present environment— between fascist movements across the globe, rising Holocaust denial and distortion, and decreasing public knowledge about Jewish life and the Holocaust—it is hard to take the explanation for the ban at face value. Take a closer look at the panels that ostensibly led to the ban, as well as some of the more troubling, unspoken issues with the comic that may have factored into the decision.
