BRAZILIAN AFROFUTURISMS
Monday, 3/20 | 2pm | CU 321

Patrick Brock, CoFutures Fellow at the University of Oslo, will deliver a lecture on Brazilian Afrofuturism on Monday, March 20th at 2pm in the Culture & Society Building, Room 321.

The multidisiciplinary CoFutures: Pathways to Possible Presents project "proposes an original study of future fictions and science fiction from around the world" and asks "How can contemporary future fictions contribute to our understanding of global issues?" As part of that ongoing project, Brock examines futurism in Latin America as expressed in books, films, games, and art. Brock's primary motivation is his interest in Brazil's Afrofuturism movement and "its implications for cultural production and regeneration, racial identity, and resistance to authoritarianism."

Brock's lecture is part of the 20th anniversary celebration of science fiction and fantasy at FAU and is sponsored by the FAU Department of English and the International Association of the Fantastic in the Arts.
