Gyasi S. Byng

Gyasi S. Byng is currently a first year PhD student at the University of Rochester and an adjunct instructor at Monroe Community College. Her research interests include slavery and the African American novel, black identity in the works of Octavia Butler, the construction of white masculine identity in 19th century American fiction, and posthuman identity in 20th century American science fiction. Recently, Gyasi presented a paper on the fantastic and speculative elements of neoslave narratives at the International Conference for the Fantastic in the Arts. Her creative work can be found in Black Magnolias, Rivet: The Journal of Writing That Risks, and the forthcoming issue of Open Minds Quarterly.
