SHENKAR COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, DESIGN, AND ART
The Comparative Studies Ph. D. program’s Design, Aesthetics, and the Arts track was founded through a partnership with the Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art in Ranat Gan, Israel, just outside of Tel Aviv. Shenkar has world-class programs in the visual arts, fashion and all aspects of design, including the history and philosophy of design. Its faculty “serves as a center for the academic study of design, with the most up-to-date, relevant and forward-looking courses, while cooperating with external elements from the world of design and industry.” They have the 6th ranked fashion school in the world and the 9th ranked industrial design department in Europe and the Americas, according to The Business of Fashion and Red Dot Design Awards, respectively. The DAA track draws from Shenkar’s Master’s Degree in Design, a program that “offers an advanced level of theoretical and technological framework with a strong emphasis on inter- and trans-disciplinary projects…” Students in the DAA track can take courses from this degree program in Shenkar, either remotely or in-person, through a semester-long (or longer) trip to Shenkar’s campus. Shenkar’s Unit for History and Philosophy of Art, Design, and Technology played a key role in the construction of the DAA track and FAU is excited to share ideas, faculty, students, and community with them.
