French Cultures of Embodiment
The Center for Body, Mind, and Culture of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, Florida Atlantic University in collaboration with the Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Comparative Literature and the English Graduate Students Society presents a two-day international conference on March 26-27, 2010.
French Cultures of Embodiment
The title of this conference conveys a double plurality: First, the diverse styles of embodiment in the plurality of French-speaking cultures that also range far beyond the French territory of Europe, extending into Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Second, the plurality of embodied arts and aesthetic practices in these different French-speaking cultures: dance, music, drama, architecture, fashion, cosmetics, cuisine, but also film, performance, poetry, and other literary genres. This conference will explore both of these pluralist axes to probe the rich and deeply embodied cultures of Francophonie.
