Rethinking the Public Landscape: Public Furniture at the Intersection of Poetic Function and Civic Need
Wednesday, Apr 05, 2023
John Sandell’s solo exhibition proposes an exploration of new forms of seating elements (benches and chairs) for outdoor public places as a reimagining of the potential for civic furniture. The pieces range from design of seating for individuals to larger pieces offering diverse modalities of seating for small groups, which are poetic musings expressing the desire for diversification of form in public space. The work is currently on view at the Young At Art Museum’s Fun Zone in Plantation, Florida.
