We are pleased to announce that Dr. Shermeen Yousif, our faculty at the school of architecture FAU was elected to serve at the ACADIA Board of Directors for 2023-2025. The Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture (ACADIA) is an international network of digital design researchers and professionals. It is one of the most prestigious computational design organizations internationally that facilitates critical investigations into the role of computation in architecture, planning, and building science, encouraging innovation in design creativity, sustainability, and education.
Dr. Shermeen Yousif is the founder of the Environmental Design and Natural Materials lab at FAU, an interdisciplinary lab with a focus on using advanced computational methods, artificial intelligence strategies, and performance-driven design tools to experiment with designing and fabricating environmentally driven design prototypes. Shermeen’s interdisciplinary line of research has led to the development of multiple computational methods for augmenting generative design systems and has led to multiple peer-reviewed publications, excellence awards, and research grants. Recently, her research project has been focused on developing interconnected AI-driven design systems in a human-plus-machine model, towards augmented creativity. Her focus has been on incorporating a multiplicity of AI models, including Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), neural language models, 3D-GAN, etc., into computational design systems. The objective is to contribute to the paradigm shift happening in architecture towards creative design exploration and higher performance.
