ADMISSIONS WAITLIST FAQ

What is the waitlist and how does it work?

The waitlist is a group of first-year applicants we may still consider for admission if there is still space available once the students we have already admitted decide whether or not they will enroll.

Please note that being placed on the waitlist is not the same as being denied. You still may be considered for admission to Florida Atlantic University should space open within our freshmen class for Summer 2024, Fall 2024, or Spring 2025.

Why was I placed on the waitlist?
Florida Atlantic has seen a significant increase in applications over the last several years. There are many more qualified applicants than there is space available; therefore, we cannot offer admission to all of the qualified candidates. Our decision to offer you a place on the waitlist reflects our belief in your potential to succeed at Florida Atlantic.
What should I do next?

We encourage you to report your first semester grades and/or any new SAT/ACT/CLT scores you have obtained since you first submitted your application. Please report updated grades through the SSAR and test scores through your application portal. Official score reports can also be sent directly from the testing agency to Florida Atlantic.

No additional information (including letters of recommendation or continued interest) will be accepted.

If I am admitted from the waitlist, will on-campus housing be available?
If you are admitted after April 1, it is unlikely that on-campus housing will be available.
How many students have been admitted from the waitlist in the past?
This is the first year Florida Atlantic has implemented a waitlist, so no historical data is available.
Does Florida Atlantic rank its waitlist?
No, the waitlist is not ranked.
When will I be notified if I am admitted from the waitlist?

If we can offer you admission, we will notify you as soon as possible, but no later than May 31.

Since we are unable to determine an exact date for when we may need to consider the waitlist, we advise you to make plans to attend a college or university where you already have a firm offer of admission in place.

Will I have access to courses if I get accepted from the waitlist at a later date?
If you are admitted off the waitlist, it is highly likely courses will be available. We encourage all admitted students to begin the onboarding process immediately upon admission to have as many options as possible. Additional details will be provided if and when that time comes.
If admitted from the waitlist, must I enroll?
Students admitted from the waitlist are not required to enroll.
I was accepted back in the Fall but haven't yet confirmed my acceptance. Is my spot secure?
Yes, if you were accepted, your spot is secure as long as you pay your enrollment deposit by the May 1 deposit deadline.
If admitted from the waitlist, when would I be required to send in my non-refundable enrollment deposit?

If you are admitted from the waitlist before May 1, you must secure your spot by paying your non-refundable deposit by the deposit deadline of May 1.

Students admitted from the waitlist after May 1 will be required to pay the non-refundable deposit to confirm their enrollment within 14 days of receiving their offer of admission. You will forfeit your spot if you do not make your deposit within this time frame.

Admission updates will be communicated through your Application Portal, so we encourage you to monitor both your email and the portal regularly.

If not admitted from the waitlist, may I reapply?

Applicants who are not offered admission as a freshman are welcome to reapply as a transfer student after enrolling at another accredited institution and meeting our transfer requirements.

In addition, Florida Atlantic offers these transfer pathway programs that guarantee admission* to Florida Atlantic if specific transfer admission eligibility criteria are met:

Direct Transfer partnership with Verto Education: This program provides students with an opportunity to start college abroad before continuing their studies on campus at Florida Atlantic.
Link2FAU Transfer Pathway Program. Students who opt to earn their AA degree at one of our local partner colleges (Broward College, Indian River State College, Palm Beach State College or Miami Dade College) may then transfer to Florida Atlantic to earn their bachelor’s degree.
