Dr. Javad Hashemi serves as the Chairperson of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Florida Atlantic University. He received Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University in 1988 and has been engaged in engineering education and engineering research over the past 35 years. As a professor, he has received numerous awards and recognitions for his commitment to engineering education. Dr. Hashemi has held numerous administrative positions including, in 2007, Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering at Texas Tech University (managing the research activities of over 100 faculty); in 2011, Chairperson of the Ocean and Mechanical Engineering (OME) at FAU; and in 2017, Dean of Research for College of Engineering at Computer Science at FAU. Dr. Hashemi has extensive experience in managing large programs and complex organizations. Dr. Hashemi’s current areas of research interest include Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Sports Medicine, has published over 50 journal articles including co-authorship of an undergraduate textbook on Materials Science and Engineering, and has over 7000 citations.
