"Philosophy begins when one learns to doubt - particularly to doubt one's cherished beliefs, one's dogmas and one's axioms"
-- Will Durant --
The Philosophy Department at Florida Atlantic University offers a high quality Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy. Our B.A. program is consistently viewed as one of the best undergraduate philosophy programs in Florida's public university system.
Many of the students who have graduated with a B.A. in philosophy from Florida Atlantic University have gone on to sucessfully pursue their graduate/professional education at such institutions as Oxford University, Columbia University, The New School for Social Research, SUNY Stony Brook, and SUNY Binghampton.
The quality of both the undergraduate and the graduate philosophy programs at Florida Atlantic University is enhanced by the presence of an active research faculty that produces numerous professional publications and conference presentations, both at the national and the international level. The philosophy faculty also contributes significantly to the College's multi-disciplinary certificate programs.
The Philosophy Department offers an undergraduate program of study with an emphasis in the liberal arts and, at the same time, prepares the student for various career opportunities. The intellectual training provided by the study of philosophy is an excellent preparation for the study of law, for the clergy, for public service professions, as well as for graduate study in philosophy and related disciplines.
In addition to offering the more traditional philosophy major, the Philosophy Department also offers a philosophy major track in Pre-Law for students who wish to go on to law school.
