Medical Physics Graduate Program Accreditation Granted

Boca Raton, Fla. – July 2, 2014
– Congratulations to Dr. Theodora Leventouri for her work in establishing the Medical Physics Graduate program. Under Dr. Leventouri’s leadership, the program was granted accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs, Inc.


Medical Physics is an applied branch of physics devoted to the application of physics to the diagnosis and treatment of human disease and the planning and development of treatment equipment. Graduates of the program will pursue careers as radiation therapy physicists, diagnostic medical physicists, nuclear medical physicists, or as health physicists.


The Master of Science in Medical Physics degree program develops advanced scientific knowledge and professional skills through an interdisciplinary curriculum featuring on-site training with The Lynn Cancer Institute of the BRRH, The Wellington Regional Medical Center, South Florida Radiation Oncology and Broward North 21st Century Oncology.


Many individuals were instrumental in the accreditation process, including: Provost Gary Perry, Ph.D. Vice Provost Diane Alperin, Ph.D., College of Science Dean Russ Ivy, Ph.D., Interim Chair of the Department of Geosciences, Charles Roberts, Ph.D. and Physics Department Chair Warner Miller, Ph.D. Others who contributed to this achievement include faculty who participated in the Commission’s visit and Research Affiliate Professors/Medical Physicists Silvia Pella, Ph.D., Zoubir Ouhib, DABR, Charles Shang, DABR and Tim Williams, M.D. Last but not least, thanks are due to the excellent performance and dedication of graduates and students of the medical physics program.
