Who are the FAU Orientation Welcome Leaders?

Orientation Welcome Leaders assist incoming first year and transfer students and their families with their transition to Florida Atlantic University.  O.W.L.s will work closely with New Student & Owl Family Programs staff to help facilitate programming for new students.  The Orientation & Welcome Leader position is a very prestigious and special student leadership position.

What does being an FAU Orientation & Welcome Leader involve?

Orientation & Welcome Leaders serve as a resource, guide, and most importantly the very first friend to incoming students.  They are knowledgeable about Florida Atlantic University and work hard to provide a smooth transition for new students.  O.W.L.s should have a love of FAU and a desire to share their passion with new students. 

What is the time commitment?

Being an Orientation & Welcome Leader is an honor and privilege-- and as such, is a time commitment.  During the Spring 2014 term, O.W.L.s will participate in a required weekly training sessions.  Intensive training will be held at the end of May to prepare for the orientation season.  Freshman and Transfer orientation sessions will be held from May through August.  O.W.L.s must be available to work for all orientation sessions.

What are the qualifications to be an O.W.L.?

To be considered for the O.W.L. position, all applicants MUST:

  • LOVE Florida Atlantic University and show lots of Owl Spirit!
  • Have a positive attitude
  • Have completed at least one semester at FAU and completed at least 12 credits
  • Earn at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA and be in good academic standing
  • Be in good disciplinary standing and clear of any conduct/judicial violations of the Student Code of Conduct
  • Be available to work throughout Summer 2014; may not enroll in summer courses or have outside employment
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States

Pick up an application at the New Student & Owl Family Programs office (Student Union, room 206), or you can download a copy here.  Applications are due to the office by Friday, November 8, by 5:00pm.  Applicants will participate in a group interview session and an individual interview.  Be sure to attend an Information Session, which will give you more details on the position and the application process.
