Our music program includes Grammy award winning faculty, our own Hoot/Wisdom Records L.L.C., state-of-the art recording and pre-production studios, and a faculty who are dedicated to the development and enrichment of FAU music students who aspire to careers in music education, performance or the music industry. With 49 percent of its student body classified as minority or international students, Florida Atlantic University ranks as the most racially, ethnically and culturally diverse institution in Florida’s State University System.
The Department of Music is proud to announce two outstanding achievements regarding our performance ensembles for 2015-2016. The FAU Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Kyle Prescott, has been invited to perform for the Southern Division of the College Band Directors National Association. The conference performers are selected by rigorous blind evaluation by a team of conductors from across the country. The Wind Ensemble will be performing during the three-day conference in Charleston, South Carolina in the new Gaillard Center Gaillard Center, a state-of-the-art $142 million dollar facility located in the heart of Charleston’s historic district. ¡Cantemos!, FAU’s chamber choral ensemble directed by Dr. Patricia P. Fleitas, has been invited to perform at the 2016 Florida Music Educators’ Association Professional Development Conference in Tampa. The conference theme, Diversity in Music Education: The Pathway to Lifelong Learning and Participation, matches the ¡Cantemos! mission, which is the performance of choral music from the Iberian Peninsula, the Caribbean and Latin America. Congratulations to Dr. Fleitas, Dr. Prescott and to the members of these fine ensembles!
