FAU Alumni Association Announces 2013-14 Executive Committee and Board Members

BOCA RATON, Fla. (August 5, 2013)  – The Florida Atlantic University Alumni Association (FAUAA) Board recently announced its 2013-14 executive committee. Former Vice Chair Jorge Cabrera Jr. ’98 is the Board’s new chair, taking over for Craig Richman ’79 who served as 2012-13 chair. Continuing their service as members of the Board’s executive committee are Tiffany Weimar ’07 as secretary, and Michael Lansing ’02 as treasurer. Benjamin Dickinson ’04 joins the executive committee as vice chair.

Cabrera is director of accounting and technology services for The Breakers Palm Beach. He has more than 10 years of financial management experience and serves as treasurer for the Resort Hotel Association Board of Directors and on the finance committee for the Boys & Girls Club of Palm Beach County. Cabrera previously served on the FAUAA Board from 2002 to 2008. He received a bachelor’s degree in finance from FAU.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve and represent the FAU Alumni Association,” said Cabrera. “Our board is committed to developing relationships and creating new programs to engage the FAU community and advance the mission of the University.”

The board also welcomed six new members, noted for their civic service and professional accomplishments.

Darren Auster ’87,  LUTCF®, CLU®, is a financial services professional with Auster Financial Group, where he offers insurance and retirement programs through New York Life Insurance Company and other companies. He is a member and past board member of the Broward Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and a lifetime member of the FAUAA. Auster previously served on the FAUAA Board from 2003 to 2009. He received a degree in marketing from FAU’s College of Business.

Jason Doherty ’00  is a partner and director of sales for R2 Unified Technologies, which he grew from a startup company in 2008 to one of Inc.’s Top 500 Fastest Growing Companies in America. He was named the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Leader of the Year for 2012. Doherty helped establish PULSE, the Chamber’s networking group for professionals under 40, serves on the FAU Information Technology and Operations Management (ITOM) Advisory Board, and is a YMCA youth coach for soccer and tee-ball.

Anthony Horky ’94  is the owner of Anthony J. Horky, P.A., a commercial litigation law firm located in Boca Raton. He has been practicing law in South Florida for 14 years.While a student at FAU, Horky served on the Dean’s Student Advisory Committee and was president of the Pre-Law Club. Prior to enrolling at FAU, he served in the U.S. Army. Horky is a member of the South Palm Beach County Bar Association, the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce, and a lifetime member of the FAUAA. 

Wendy Kelly ’09  is director of human resources for Real Life Recovery in Delray Beach. Previously, she served as volunteer coordinator for the Area Agency on Aging in West Palm Beach. Kelly received a B.S. in health administration from FAU and is pursuing an M.S. in human resources from FIU. Her civic service includes serving as executive secretary for the Urban League of Palm Beach County Young Professionals and on the City of Boynton Beach Community Relations Board.

Danielle Leitch ’93  serves asexecutive vice president for MoreVisibility, a full service interactive advertising agency and Inc. 500/5000 company, where she oversees the staff and operations. She has more than 15 years of marketing and business development expertise and is a regular speaker at industry events across the country. Leitch is active in a number of community organizations including the FAU ITOM Advisory Board and the PTAs of several local schools.

Thomas Zeichman ’09 is an attorney with the law firm of Messana, P.A. in downtown Fort Lauderdale, where he practices business bankruptcy and commercial litigation. Zeichman received a B.A. from the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College at FAU and was active in student government and FAU housing. He also received a J.D. from Nova Southeastern University and serves as a mentor to current law students.
