FAU’s 2012 Music Season Offers More Than 30 Concerts Featuring Classical, Jazz, Chamber Music

BOCA RATON, FL (August 23, 2012) –Florida Atlantic University’s department of music in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters presents a season of music for every taste, with more than 30 concerts scheduled for 2012. Most concerts take place in FAU’s University Theatre, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. All concerts are free with a suggested donation of $10, unless otherwise noted.

“Our professional ensemble-in-residences and student groups represent some incredible musical talent,” said Rebecca Lautar, chair of FAU’s department of music. “We are looking forward to a full and exciting season.”

The 2012 season opens with a Piano Faculty Concert on Saturday, September 22 at 7 p.m. as FAU’s internationally acclaimed piano faculty present their favorite works in this popular annual showcase. The 18-piece FAU Jazz Rats Big Band will present an afternoon of jazz with special guest vocalist Chloe Dolandis and tenor sax master Larry McKenna on Sunday, September 30 at 3 p.m. This is followed by an evening of Romantic Masterworks by Chopin, Schubert, Chabrier and Suppé, performed by FAU Symphony Orchestra, on Saturday, October 6 at 7 p.m., featuring pianist Heather Coltman.

The FAU Jazz Band and Jazz Combos will perform jazz standards and new works for big band on Sunday, October 21 at 3 p.m. The Wind Ensemble Performs works by Schman and Bukvich on Wednesday, October 24 at 7 p.m... The season continues with concerts by the Rattette Jazz Ensemble, Commercial Music Ensembles, Choral Groups, Classical Guitar Society and Chamber Soloists.

A highlight of the holiday season will be the Messiah Concert on Sunday, December 2 at 3 p.m., featuring FAU students and alumni. On Sunday, December 9 at 6 p.m., FAU presents the Madrigal Dinner. This annual tradition of pageantry, entertainment, food and extraordinary music is a celebration that’s just right for the holidays.
