Seventh Annual ‘Keep Memories Alive’ Walk to Benefit FAU’s Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center
BOCA RATON, FL (August 1, 2012) –Florida Atlantic University’s Caring Hearts Auxiliary of the Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center will host the seventh annual “Keep Memories Alive — Steppin’ to the Oldies, Bobby Socks Optional!” walk affair on Sunday, November 4 at 9 a.m. at the Town Center at Boca Raton, 6000 Glades Road, Boca Raton.
“The spirit and generosity the Caring Heart Auxiliary, sponsors and walkers fuels important programs and services that the Center may otherwise may not be able to offer,” said Kathleen Valentine, Ph.D., R.N, director of the Memory and Wellness Center, which is part of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. “Everyone who participates in the Keep Memories Alive Walk leaves with the satisfaction of knowing that their dollars go toward helping people who are dealing with memory loss and their caregivers.”
Participants may walk in teams or as individuals dressed in event T-shirts or festive oldies attire while enjoying classic tracks of the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s from Magic 102.7 F.M. Bobby Campbell is once again the Presenting Sponsor, and Christine E. Lynn is the Honorary Ambassador. John and Dotsa Bitove and their family are the Honorary Family and Honorary Event Chairs. Caring Hearts Auxiliary board members, Terry Fedele and Jill Poser-Kammet, are co-chairing the walk. Sponsors of last year’s walk, along with 400 walkers, raised more than $325,000.
The Memory and Wellness Center, located on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, is part of FAU’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing and averages 16,000 visits per year. The Center offers a wide range of services and programs to individuals with mild to moderate memory disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. Visits begin with a comprehensive memory evaluation. The evaluation results often help diagnose a memory disorder and develop a treatment plan in cooperation with a patient’s physicians.
The Day Center provides an active and secure place for families to bring spouses or parents who are experiencing memory loss, and the caregiver support programs have a positive impact on life at home.
Walkers who raise and submit a minimum of $30 before the event or $40 on the day of the event will receive the Keep Memories Alive Walk T-Shirt while supplies last. For more information or to register, contact 561-297-4066 or firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit https://fauf.fau.edu/memories. The Center may be found on Facebook by searching for “Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center at FAU.”
