FAU Jupiter’s Lifelong Learning Society Appoints Five Advisory Board Members

JUPITER, Fla. (June 5, 2013) – Florida Atlantic University has announced the appointments of Janice Barry, William Boyan, Hope Goodsite, John Klein and Kathryn Rendo to its Lifelong Learning Society Jupiter Advisory Board.

“The current board members determined that Janice, William, Hope, John and Kathryn were the best candidates because of their demonstrated leadership skills and extensive management experience,” said René Friedman, executive director of the Lifelong Learning Society.

 Barry, an elementary school teacher, also was the educational director of Head Start following her graduation from Mary Baldwin College and Georgia Southern University. She is the former owner of a home health agency and founded Who’s New in North County, an organization to assist newcomers in northern Palm Beach County. Barry has volunteered at Jupiter Medical Center, Home Delivered Meals and the Supervisor of Election’s office.

Boyan joined John Hancock financial company after graduating from Harvard University and, before retiring 40 years later, became its president. He has served on several boards including John Hancock, The Children’s Hospital of Boston, and was a recipient of the Humanitarian Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews.

Goodsite volunteered with the Junior League following graduation from Elmira College. She joined R.H. Macy’s, becoming a consumer affairs manager and worked with the corporate legal department on the development of an advertising guidelines manual. She served as a risk manager at Merrill Lynch, Kings Supermarkets, and Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Klein joined Marty Gutmacher, Inc. after graduating from New York University. He founded and was chief executive officer of John Roberts, Inc. and JR Nites, Inc. He has served as an officer and board member of the Young Men’s Philanthropic League and volunteered at Hospice for the Visiting Nurse Alliance of Vermont and New Hampshire.

Rendo graduated from Seton Hall University and pursued a career in employee relations and human resources at Allied Signal and Liz Claiborne, Inc. She was senior vice president, general counsel and secretary to the corporate board at the Leslie Fay Companies, Inc. She also served as an adjunct professor of law at Seton Hall and as the president of the board of directors of Harmony Learning Center.
