FAU Jupiter’s Lifelong Learning Society Awards $12,000 in Scholarships

JUPITER, Fla. (May 10, 2013) - The Lifelong Learning Society at Florida Atlantic University’s John D. MacArthur Campus awarded 12 scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students at the Northern Campus Achievement Awards. 

“Each year, Lifelong Learning awards five $1,000 scholarships to the students on the John D. MacArthur Campus, including two $1,000 scholarships from the proceeds of our LUNAFEST© Film Festival,” said René Friedman, executive director of the Lifelong Learning Society in Jupiter. “This year we had an additional five $1,000 scholarships established.”

Ilene Gibbs and Mr. and Mrs. Alan Hogan established one $1,000 scholarship in memory of her husband and their friend, Dr. Richard Gibbs, M.D., a Lifelong Learning Society student. The family of Robert Friedman, who was an architect, a vice president at FAU, a Jupiter town councilor, and a Lifelong Learning Society student, also established four $1,000 scholarships.  

The primary criteria for the scholarship selection were a candidate’s demonstrated academic achievement and leadership performance and potential. The graduate scholarship recipients were Kristina Baker, Kristen Brittain and Shannon Sanguinetti. The undergraduate scholarship recipients were Skylar Benedict, Michelle Dougherty, Edwiygh Franck, Caitlyn Hood, Patty Mayer, Jennifer O’Gorman, Marcia Taylor, Alejandra Uribe and David Urieta.
