BOCA RATON, FL (May 17, 2012) – Florida Atlantic University received the “Business of the Year Award” from the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce at its annual awards luncheon today.  The Boca Chamber Business Awards celebrates entrepreneurs, business people and institutions that create goods, services and jobs, as well as bring opportunity and economic prosperity to Boca Raton’s community.

“This is a wonderful day for Florida Atlantic University and the Boca Raton community,” said FAU President Mary Jane Saunders. “To be recognized by the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce is such an honor and achievement. We cherish the relationships we’ve built with the Chamber and the City of Boca Raton, as well as with all of the fine business establishments and organizations that reside here. FAU will only continue to strengthen these affiliations through innovative partnerships and focused community engagement.”

Each year, the Chamber presents the “Business of the Year Award” to a company or institution that has experienced continued growth, overcome major obstacles, earned major accomplishments, and demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the community.

FAU was selected due to its tremendous growth and development, continued commitment to excellence in education, and forward progress over the past few years. The University has brought increased value to Boca Raton by establishing the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine and a new on-campus football stadium, while remaining a champion of local business and community involvement.

“Florida Atlantic University has demonstrated a strong dedication to the integration of intellectual capital with the business community,” said Troy M. McLellan, CCE, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce. “The excellence shown by the leadership and staff of FAU helps solidify Boca Raton’s growing national reputation as a true College Town.”
