FAU High School Celebrates 2012 Commencement
BOCA RATON, FL (May 10, 2012) – Florida Atlantic University High School hosted its graduation exercises today at the Barry and Florence Friedberg Lifelong Learning Center, 777 Glades Road, FAU Boca Raton campus. The group of 24 students represented the eighth graduating class since the school was founded in 2004.
"In addition to serving our academically talented and highly motivated high school students, FAU High School serves as a vibrant learning laboratory for FAU's College of Education undergraduate and graduate students," said Joel Herbst, assistant dean of FAU's PK-12 schools and educational programs. "We are so proud of the accomplishments of our graduating class and look forward to a successful 2012-13 school year."
One such talented student is graduate Luizetta Navrazhnykh, 18, who became interested in chemistry while taking general and organic chemistry and science courses dually enrolled at FAU. Navrazhnykh graduated summa cum laude with a 3.9 grade point average and plans to attend the University of Chicago on a full scholarship to major in chemistry. She placed first in the Florida state science fair, and in 2010, was a finalist at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in San Jose, California, placing second in her category. She was one of 300 semifinalists in the Intel Science Talent Search. Navrazhnykh plans to pursue a career in chemistry and research.
This year's FAU High School graduating class hosts the highest number of National Merit Scholars with three finalists and three commendations.More than half of this year's graduates will continue their studies at FAU; most have attended FAU High since their freshmen year.
FAU High School is a highly selective program that provides students in grades nine through 12 with an opportunity to experience college-level courses in the environment of the university classroom, laboratories and support facilities. FAU High School recently received an "A" from the Florida Department of Education with a perfect score on the state accountability report.
