FAU Jupiter’s Lifelong Learning Society Raises More Than $3,000 for FAU Scholarships and the Breast Cancer Fund

JUPITER, FL (April 2, 2012) –More than 500 people attended Florida Atlantic University’s Lifelong Learning Society Jupiter film festival, “LUNAFEST®:  Short Films By, For, About Women®,” raising more than $3,000. The proceeds from LUNAFEST will be donated to the Breast Cancer Fund, the leading national organization working to identify and eliminate the environmental causes of breast cancer, and also will be used for two $1,000 scholarships designated for students attending classes on FAU’s John D. MacArthur Campus in Jupiter.

“For the past three years, it has been our goal to increase attendance for this film festival, enabling us to raise more money for FAU scholarships and the Breast Cancer Fund,” said Kami Barrett, assistant director of Jupiter’s Lifelong Learning Society. “This year, we had the support of the Feminist Student Alliance and the Alliance for Non-Traditional Students on FAU’s John D. MacArthur Campus, women’s nonprofit organizations and local businesses. This increase in support made this event successful.”

LUNAFEST, which is created and funded by LUNA®, the maker of whole nutrition bars for women, was established in 2000. The film festival has raised more than $456,000 for the Breast Cancer Fund and more than $785,000 for other women’s nonprofit organizations.
