FAU Presents Documentary Examining the Effects of Fracking on Water Quality
BOCA RATON, FL (March 5, 2012) - Florida Atlantic University’s 2012 Forum on 21st Century Social Science Controversies will present “Gasland” followed by a panel discussion on Thursday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
This important and timely documentary examines the environmental impact of hydraulic fracturing for natural gas. The largest domestic natural gas boom in U.S. history is part of an energy development policy that U.S. President Barack Obama described as making the U.S. the “Saudi Arabia of natural gas.”
In “Gasland,” writer, narrator and director Josh Fox investigates fracking’s effects on water quality. The Huffington Post said “Gasland,” an award-winning film and finalist for an Academy Award for Best Documentary, “might be the best film of the year.” Fox also will participate in the post-screening panel discussion.
The film and panel discussion are free and open to the public. This event is sponsored by FAU’s Lifelong Learning Society; the departments of anthropology, political science and sociology; and the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies.
