FAU Calendar of Events for the Week of March 5, 2012

BOCA RATON, FL (March 5, 2012) – Florida Atlantic University will host the following events:
FAU Jupiter's Student Government Presents 'Last Lecture' Series

This free lecture series will be held on Thursday, March 15 and Thursday, April 19 at 7 p.m., in the AD Auditorium, John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Drive, Jupiter.  Reservations are suggested, but not required. For more information, contact Sarah Harris at561-799-8591 or sharri39@fau.edu .

FAU Jupiter's Student Government will host a "Last Lecture" series to present select members of FAU's faculty to answer one question, "If this were your last time to address a group of students, what would you say to them?" The third lecture will be "Expectations," presented by Kevin Lanning, Ph.D., professor of psychology in the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College at FAU.  

 



FAU Jupiter to Host Inaugural 'Frisbee for Friends' Ultimate Frisbee Tournament

This event will be held on Saturday, March 17, from 1 to 8 p.m. on the recreation field, John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Drive, Jupiter. Registration packets are available atwww.fau.edu/jupiter. For more information, emailhnorcini@fau.edu .

Students Advocating Volunteer Involvement (SAVI) will host the inaugural "Frisbee for Friends" Ultimate Frisbee Tournament on the recreation fields at FAU's John D. MacArthur Campus.  "Frisbee for Friends" will take place on Saturday, March 17, from 1 to 8 p.m. The day will include nonstop Ultimate Frisbee games, food and fun.  Students, faculty, staff and members of the community are invited to participate. Registration begins at 1 p.m., play begins at 2 p.m. and closing ceremonies will be held at 7 p.m.  Entry fee for teams of six is $25 and individuals may enter for $5.  All proceeds from the event will go to the Friends Chorus of Martin County, a program of Pathway to Independence, LLC. FAU Jupiter's Graduate and Professional School Fair

This free event will take place on Tuesday, March 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at FAU's John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Drive, Jupiter. For more information, contact Sarah McHale at 561-799-8671 or smchale@fau.edu .

FAU Jupiter's Career Development Center will host more than 25 graduate and professional school programs from around the state, as well as some from out of state and international programs, during the Graduate and Professional School Fair. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Breezeway in front of the Student Resource (SR) building. Admissions representatives from a variety of programs including, but not limited to, medical schools, law schools and business schools, will be on-hand to answer questions about their specific programs, admissions requirements, as well as to make suggestions for improving a candidate's application. This event is free and open to the public.

 



Gerhard Weinberg Presents 'A New Look at Hitler and the Beginning of the Holocaust'

This free lecture will be Wednesday, March 21, at 3:30 p.m. at FAU's Wimberly Library, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton. For more information, call 561-297-3921.

FAU Libraries will host Gerhard Weinberg, world-renowned historian and professor emeritus of history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as the sixth lecturer in the biennial K. Frank and Rita Korf Lecture Series. Weinberg's lecture, "A New Look at Hitler and the Beginning of the Holocaust," will highlight documents that show Hitler's views toward the fate of the Jews and indicate how his murderous intentions were carried out. Weinberg has published extensively on the origins and course of World War II and the Holocaust. The Korfs donated their papers and memorabilia to FAU Libraries in 2001, creating the K. Frank and Rita Korf Collection Endowed Fund, which provides for speakers whose research touches on areas that were important to Kurt Frank Korf. Additional support is provided by FAU's department of history.

 



FAU's Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College to Host 'Visit Day'

FAU's Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College will host a "Visit Day" for prospective students and their families to visit the John D. MacArthur Campus in Jupiter and learn more about the Wilkes Honors College.  The program will include a showcase of services, academic experience sessions with faculty and student-led campus tours.  For more information on the Wilkes Honors College, visit www.honorscollege.edu.
