FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Science to Host ‘Pre-Health Professions Day’

BOCA RATON, FL (March 5, 2012) – Florida Atlantic University’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Science will host “Pre-Health Professions Day” on Monday, March 19 from noon to 3:30 p.m. on the east patio of the Sanson Life Sciences Building, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. The annual event connects students, alumni and the community with detailed information about health-related graduate education programs.

“FAU continues to act as a driving force for science, technology, engineering, math and medicine (STEM) education and careers,” said Gary W. Perry, Ph.D., dean of the College of Science at FAU.  “Providing an opportunity to learn more about graduate school options arms the medical professionals of the future with the information and encouragement they need to move their careers forward.”

Participants will have an opportunity to speak with admission representatives from various health-related graduate and professional programs, including chiropractic; dental; exercise and health promotion; medicine; nursing; occupational therapy; optometry; pharmacy; physical therapy; physician assistant; podiatry; and veterinary medicine. The admission representatives will share information about specific programs, answer related questions and provide information about unique opportunities within their programs.

Organizations scheduled to appear in a school showcase include FAU’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, as well as FAU’s Department of Exercise Science and Health Promotion; Florida State University’s College of Medicine; Nova Southeastern University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine; The Ohio State University School of Dental Medicine; University of Central Florida’s College of Medicine; University of Florida’s College of Pharmacy and School of Medicine; the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine; and University of South Florida’s College of Medicine.

Several FAU pre-health clubs will conduct workshops, including intubation and suture demonstrations; an exotic animal presentation; “Design Your Own Scrubs;” “First ‘Impressions,’” and “Medical Jeopardy.”

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 561-297-3700, email preprof@fau.edu or visit http://www.science.fau.edu/prehealthday/index.html.
