FAU Equity Analyst Program Advances to State Finals
EAP’s Students to Compete Amongst Top Florida Universities
BOCA RATON, FL (February 13, 2012) – Students in the Equity Analyst Program (EAP) in the College of Business at Florida Atlantic University have reached the state finals in the 2012 CFA Investment Research Challenge. FAU’s team will compete in the state finals on Saturday, February 18 at Rollins College when the teams’ final presentations will be evaluated by a high-profile panel consisting of chief investment officers, portfolio managers and research directors from the region's leading investment management firms.
In its two-year existence, the EAP is the only program of its kind in Florida, and was designed to equip students with financial analysis and equity research skills honed by developing financial models and conducting detailed investment research reports on South Florida-based public companies. The group also advanced to the state finals in 2011 during its inaugural year.
Conducted in the state-of-the art Trading Room located in the Office Depot Center for Executive Education at FAU’s Boca Raton campus, the Friday morning sessions provide students exposure to top investment professionals from equity research, investments and private equity. To date, individuals from firms such as JP Morgan Private Bank, Noble Financial and Capital Markets have participated in the program.
“This is a fantastic accomplishment for a program that is just 2 years old,” said Rainford Knight, Ph.D., founder of the EAP and professor of finance at FAU. “To make it to the state final two years in a row speaks to the talent and intellect of the students selected to be a part of the program.”
The CFA Institute Annual Global Investment Research Challenge gathers students, investment industry professionals, as well as public and privately held corporate sponsors together for a competition involving universities, including the University of Florida, Florida International University, Florida State University, Stetson University, University of North Florida, University of Miami, and Rollins University. Assembled teams of three to five students recently worked directly with Ryder Systems, Inc. in researching and preparing a company analysis.
