Harbor Branch Foundation Names Executive Director
FORT PIERCE, FL (October 14, 2010) – The Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute Foundation, Inc. announced the appointment of Janet M. Alford as Foundation executive director. As executive director, Alford is responsible for all philanthropic activities associated with the Foundation, the direct support organization for Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch.
“Janet brings a wealth of experience to our team at Harbor Branch and genuine enthusiasm for the impact that philanthropy can make in our world today,” said James L. Seitz, chairman of the Harbor Branch Foundation. “Janet’s efforts will help build the Foundation’s capacity to augment the Institute’s research programs and the development of new research endeavors.”
Alford spent the majority of her career in non-profit management. She most recently led the restoration and rehabilitation of the historic McKee Botanical Garden in Vero Beach. In central Florida, she was director of the Harry P. Leu Gardens, served as development director at the Orlando Science Center and as foundation director at the West Orange Healthcare Foundation. Alford began her career as the education and information specialist for the State of Alabama’s Office of Consumer Protection and as education advisor for the Eastern Division of Florida Power Corporation, now Progress Energy. Alford holds a master’s degree in management from the Crummer School of Business at Rollins College and a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University. Alford, a third generation Floridian, grew up in Winter Garden, Florida.
