FAU President’s Scholarship Challenge to Raise Funds for Students
‘Waves of Blue’ Inauguration Concert Proceeds to Benefit President’s Initiative

BOCA RATON, FL (October 13, 2010) – Florida Atlantic University President Mary Jane Saunders launched the FAU President’s Scholarship Challenge, an initiative to recognize the importance of scholarship support to students at FAU.  Along with leaders from the FAU Foundation Board of Directors, Saunders created the initiative to match new and increased gifts to the university designated for annual scholarship support.
Saunders donated $50,000 to launch this initiative, emphasizing how scholarships have become even more critical for students with the decline in the economy and often play a key role in whether or not students can attend the university. Contributions through an annual gift designated to student scholarships at FAU will be matched dollar for dollar through this program.
“I am absolutely committed to FAU and its students, and I want to assist in any way possible to help them succeed,” said Saunders.  “I encourage others to join in helping students attend FAU and attain their scholarly goals.”
In celebration of the upcoming inauguration of President Saunders, FAU’s department of music and several other guest artists will present the “Waves of Blue” concert on Sunday, October 24, beginning at 3 p.m. in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.  The concert kicks off FAU’s inaugural festivities, and all proceeds from the event will benefit the President’s Scholarship Challenge Fund.  General admission tickets are $25; faculty, staff and Lifelong Learning Society student tickets are $15; and degree-seeking students may obtain tickets for free. Group prices are also available. Tickets can be purchased by visiting
www.fauevents.com or by calling 1-800-564-9539.
